I know what you mean with MySpace, I built my myspace page up had lots of so called friends on there, but it wasn't really a 'connecting' place. Plus there's a hole ton of unsigned bands all trying to get you to listen to their songs, go to their gigs, and all that malarkey, too much bother for my liking.
